A BIG THANK YOU

As the academic year draws to an end i would like to thank all of the children in my class for working so hard and basically being a pleasure to teach.  I have many fond memories of all of your children and will look forward to watching them grow through the school.

The next couple of weeks will all be about easing the transition into Reception.  If anyone has any concerns about the move please come and see me.  Everyone will have the opportunity to meet their new teacher in the next couple of weeks.

Thank you to everyone who has put comments on the guestbook this year, it has been great to receive such positive feedback.

New Development - writing help

So here we are, in our final half-term of Nursery.  This has been a fantastic year and it is getting close to the long summer holiday and then our children moving up to Reception!

This half term has started with a really exciting project in the Early Years Unit outdoor area.  Quite a few volunteers from GAVO came and helped us to improve our Outdoor Classroom.  All of the Teachers, Nursery Nurses and Assistants worked hard on making the playground an exciting and fun place to play on June 4th.  The children gave their ideas and we put these into plans and then created something for us all to enjoy and work within.  The Welsh Assembly Minister Dr Brian Gibbons was really interested and came for a visit...and photos were taken which could be in The Echo, Campaign
(click on the image to read the article or Campaign online version)
and Local View Magazine.  We created some new play things, put shelving in our container to give us easier access and gave existing resources a new lease of life.Read more here.

We have put the Early Years information and films all together in a special place.  Have a look...

Welcome to the Summer Term.

Our theme this term is Finding Nemo / At the Seaside

Week Beginning 1st June 2009

This week we will be spending a lot of time outdoors in the sunshine.  Please can you ensure your child comes to school wearing sun lotion and with a sun hat to prevent burning.  It would be preferrable if your child could wear suitable footwear, open toe sandals, jelly shoes, crocs or flip flops are not suitable for climbing, running or riding tricycles.  Unfortunately we have an inset on Monday of this week and we are closed on Thursday, due to the Early Years Unit being used as a polling station.  Staff will be working with GAVO to further develop the outdoor environment.

Week Beginning 11th May 2009

This week we held our last Super Shelby Workshop.  Parents were invited in to make a puppet with their child.

Thank you for the unbelieveable support we received.   I hope you agree that it was great to come in and work with your child.  The singing was beautiful and all of the children performed well.  I hope you enjoy using your cd and book at home....... and your puppets of course!

Week beginning 27th April 2009

This week we held our 'Boat Race.'  We had so much fun!  We did not have enough puff to blow our boats across the pool, so we cheated and used fans!  All of the children's boats made it across but some required more support than others!

Thank you to all of the parents who made boats with their children.  It was an amazing event, both the staff and children will never forget it!

Week beginning 20th April 2009

This week we will be introducing our new topic.  We will be turning our Shoe Shop into an Under the Sea theme based on the childrens ideas and work.  As a home task, please can you help your child to make and decorate a boat with a simple sail.  We will be using the boats to investigae the concepts of propulsion as well as floating and sinking.  Please can you return the boats to school by Monday 27th April.

Tuesday 27th Jan

Today we went out for our first Forest School session and it was amazing.  All the children were excited to get on their waterproof suits and wellies. Our session today was about learning the rules of the log circle as well as listening to the wonderful sounds of the outdoors that we take for granted.  We also played' 123 where are you?'  which was really good fun.

Monday 26th January

In Nursery we have started to learn some letter sounds.  Last week we learnt the sound 'a.'  Our home task was to make something out of an apple and the photograph below shows how fantastic they are.  You must have all worked really hard on them and i would like to thank you for your support.  Have a look with your child to see if you can find your apple.

Christmas 2008

December 2008

Our second Super Shelby Link up session was great.  Thank you to all the parents who supported the session and made a wonderful Christmas decoration with your child.  I know you will all be pleased that your photos are on the internet!

Sound Books

I have started giving out sound books to the children who are developmentally ready. Please do not worry if your child does not have one yet, I will continually review the children’s progress so that your child will have one when THEY are ready! For those of you whose children have got sound books if you are stuck on the sounds yourself please have a look below. If you click on the letters the sounds can be heard!!

Coats / Outdoor Learning

Please can you help your child learn to put on their own coat. Children do have to put their own coats on for outdoor play, if they can’t, they spend a lot of time missing out on some fantastic learning opportunities.

Owl Babies - Week beginning 10/11/08

Over the last week we have been looking at the book ‘Owl Babies’. Just like in the book, we found a poor owl, called Bill outside on the grass, he had fallen out of his nest. The children thoroughly enjoyed making a new nest for him. This lead us on to making collages of Bill and chocolate nests. Yummy!

Birthdays 17th to 28th Nov

Over the last two weeks we have been working on the topic ‘Birthdays.’ We made cards, banners, party bags and hats.  We had to weigh and wrap presents using the right size paper.  There were candles and cakes to count and taste as well as party games to learn.  Learning action songs like ‘Superman’ and ‘The Birdie Song’ was great fun!   To finish off the topic we held a party for Robbie, which was the best day of my teaching career so far!!!!  We had so much fun together, laughing, smiling and dancing.  All of the children were amazing, and you should be really proud of them, because I am!

These are the photos from Robbie’s party.  We had disco lights and lots of music to dance to.  We played musical statues, musical chairs and pass the parcel.  Have a look at us all enjoying ourselves.

After all the dancing we needed some party food.  We had sandwiches, sausages, chicken nuggets, cheese, crisps, chocolate fingers, party rings, crisps, cakes, mmmmmmm.
