Making Chocolate Easter Nests video
It is important that we look after our pets. Children in our class have all kinds of creatures living in our homes. This week we have had a bit of a focus on dogs..it just happened that way! So Mr Lock brought in his Minature Schnauzer and the cutest puppy popped in to say hello (Ruby you are famous now!!!). We made shelters to keep a huge animal safe and snug too! Next week we are going to have a visit from a hamster. In our vets we have been healing creatures great and small - dogs, cats and snakes have left surgery smiling! Here's a nice website if you like baby animals.
I love my mummy!
Chinese New Year in Dosbarth Un
We have been learning how to look after our teeth. We are lucky to have such kind and clever parents who do such different and interesting things. We are really grateful for the support of all our parents as they help us with learning. Today one mum taught us about her job and our teeth. Now we know the best way to brush our teeth and gums, that we should brush for two minutes twice a day (four minutes for grown ups) and that it is important to visit the dentist surgery.
Thank you for your snowman/lady/sculpture pictures that you brought into school
we have put them on our wall display (22/1/10)
Reading is so important and really helps us to learn in so many ways. By reading books you help your brains to make sense of this world and our own place in it. In our class we hope to develop a love for reading. It is important to learn sounds and words at this age, but this is purely to give us the tools so that we can become an independent reader. By learning to cherish books and reading, we give our brain real strength. Molly loves to read and has chosen her favourite books - check them out at the library!

The children in our class are doing ever so well. We are so pleased with ourselves at the moment. Mr Lock is looking to find out exactly what we can do now...and explaining to us how this shows our brains are getting bigger! It is always exciting when we realise the progress we have made. This is an important part of learning and feeling proud is a wonderful feeling (for both teacher and child).
Forest School
Forest School at The Twyn School is a great way to learn. Nursery and Reception are involved in Forest School lessons at The Twyn School. For Reception, Forest School happens on a Friday - 'Forest Friday.' The children get waterproof suits and their wellies on and we go outdoors to learn. By involving the children in all sorts of fun and collaborative activities in the natural environment it is hoped brains will flourish and individuals self esteem will be raised. So far we have had a wonderful time and been excellent at working and playing together.
In our class within The Twyn School Early Years Unit we encourage pupils to have a love of life, an understanding of people and a desire for learning. The well-being of our children is at the heart of learning, we are inclusive and focused on raising attainment and achievement of all our members of our class.
In Reception 1MLock we hope to develop 'child centred' learning, nurturing enquiring minds and a spirit of curiosity. We want our children to become highly motivated, life-long learners who achieve high standards in all areas of learning.

Number work and Sound work - Let's make a great start in 2009!
Reading words and then sentences - Wow, some children have started both reading and writing sentences.
Book bags - We read in school every day. Please send in the book bag on the correct day, this will help us support your child. We will read with your child, write to you and send the book bag home again with some direction. Reading in Reception is so important and is going to be the key to learning in school. Thank you for your continued support with reading at home, it is much appreciated. Keep it going Reception! You are making great progress!!
