So here we are, in our final week of being Reception. This has been a fantastic year and it is getting close to the long summer holiday and then the move up to Year One! As the school year comes to an end it is a good time to reflect on the wonderful things we have achieved in Reception. Everyone in the class has come so far because individually and collectively we have worked so hard to improve. Thank you to all the children in my class for an amazing Reception year. This is an exciting time for the children and this week we will continue to help with transition (to the new building and with a new teacher). If anyone has any concerns about the move please come and see me. We will be sad saying 'goodbye' to the children, but we will be seeing them lots in the future! All the best to the children and families for the years to come. Thank you to our parents/carers/friends for your support this year and to those who have written comments on the guestbook this year, it is always great to read these. Planner for 2009 available here (revised 13.1.2009)
So here we are, in our final half-term of Reception. This has been a fantastic year and it is getting close to the long summer holiday and then our children moving up to Year One! We went to Barry Island (click here before looking at the pictures) on our school trip. It was such a fun day out. We enjoyed going on the beach and digging and playing with our friends. Some of our parents came to help out and they joined us in the rain down on the sand. We got sand in our sandwiches and then we had an ice cream from The Beach Comber shop. It was so much fun! On the way home some of us had a little sleep and the mums had a chat. The children in our class were all so well behaved and they made Mrs Bracey so proud! We have put the Early Years information and films all together in a special place. Have a look...

Forest School
Forest School at The Twyn School is a great way to learn. Nursery and Reception are involved in Forest School lessons at The Twyn School. For Reception, Forest School happens on a Friday - 'Forest Friday.' The children get waterproof suits and their wellies on and we go outdoors to learn. By involving the children in all sorts of fun and collaborative activities in the natural environment it is hoped brains will flourish and individuals self esteem will be raised. So far we have had a wonderful time and been excellent at working and playing together.

In our class within The Twyn School Early Years Unit we encourage pupils to have a love of life, an understanding of people and a desire for learning. The well-being of our children is at the heart of learning, we are inclusive and focused on raising attainment and achievement of all our members of our class.
In Reception2 B Bracey we hope to develop 'child centred' learning, nurturing enquiring minds and a spirit of curiosity. We want our children to become highly motivated, life-long learners who achieve high standards in all areas of learning.

Next steps... Thinking skills/Thinking about our thinking Problem Solving Number work and Sound work - Let's make a great start in 2009! Reading words and then sentences - Wow, some children have started both reading and writing sentences. Book bags - We read in school every day. Please send in the book bag on the correct day, this will help us support your child. We will read with your child, write to you and send the book bag home again with some direction. Reading in Reception is so important and is going to be the key to learning in school. Thank you for your continued support with reading at home, it is much appreciated. Keep it going Reception! You are making great progress!! Big Cat Phonics is our interactive whiteboard software that helps the whole class learn sounds, words and reading sentences in a fun way. We have started using this daily in school. Your child will enjoy and develop using this valuable teaching resource. Rote counting - forwards, backwards, English, welsh and even a little bit of Chinese!!!
