So here we are, in our final week of being Reception.  This has been a fantastic year and it is getting close to the long summer holiday and then the move up to Year One! 

 

As the school year comes to an end it is a good time to reflect on the wonderful things we have achieved in Reception.  Everyone in the class has come so far because individually and collectively we have worked so hard to improve.  Thank you to all the children in my class for an amazing Reception year.  

 

This is an exciting time for the children and this week we will continue to help with transition (to the new building and with a new teacher).  If anyone has any concerns about the move please come and see me. We will be sad saying 'goodbye' to the children, but we will be seeing them lots in the future!  All the best to the children and families for the years to come.

 

Thank you to our parents/carers/friends for your support this year and to those who have written comments on the guestbook this year, it is always great to read these.

 So here we are, in our final half-term of Reception.  This has been a fantastic year and it is getting close to the long summer holiday and then our children moving up to Year One! 

  

We went to Barry Island (click here before looking at the pictures) on our school trip.  It was such a fun day out.  We enjoyed going on the beach and digging and playing with our friends.  Some of our parents came to help out and they joined us in the rain down on the sand.  We got sand in our sandwiches and then we had an ice cream from The Beach Comber shop.  It was so much fun!  On the way home some of us had a little sleep and the mums had a chat.  The children in our class were all so well behaved and they made Mrs Bracey so proud!

  

  

 

 

 This half term has started with a really exciting project in the Early Years Unit outdoor area.  Quite a few volunteers from GAVO came and helped us to improve our Outdoor Classroom.  All of the Teachers, Nursery Nurses and Assistants worked hard on making the playground an exciting and fun place to play on June 4th.  The children gave their ideas and we put these into plans and then created something for us all to enjoy and work within.  The Welsh Assembly Minister Dr Brian Gibbons was really interested and came for a visit...and photos were taken which could be in The Echo, Campaign

Forest School

What is it?

Forest School at The Twyn School is a great way to learn. Nursery and Reception are involved in Forest School lessons at The Twyn School.  For Reception, Forest School happens on a Friday - 'Forest Friday.'  The children get waterproof suits and their wellies on and we go outdoors to learn.  By involving the children in all sorts of fun and collaborative activities in the natural environment it is hoped brains will flourish and individuals self esteem will be raised.  So far we have had a wonderful time and been excellent at working and playing together.

 In our class within The Twyn School Early Years Unit we encourage pupils to have a love of life, an understanding of people and a desire for learning.  The well-being of our children is at the heart of learning, we are inclusive and focused on raising attainment and achievement of all our members of our class.

 In Reception2 B Bracey we hope to develop 'child centred' learning, nurturing enquiring minds and a spirit of curiosity.  We want our children to become highly motivated, life-long learners who achieve high standards in all areas of learning.

Mrs Bracey and her extremely hard working Teaching Assistants help the children in our class to work independently and also effectively work as part of a team.  We have been helping children to think, problem solve and work collaboratively.
 

 
 So what have we been doing in Reception so far?...

  • Getting to know one another and learning to work and play together
  • Finding out what we like doing and the best way of doing things
  • Finding out what we know - and building on this 
  • Thinking about how we can best work together this year and finding our own place in the class 
  • s, a, t, i, p, n, c, e, m, h, r, d, ch - Jolly Phonic sounds (for help sroll down and click below)
  • 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 number writing, counting to 10 and back again
  • Ordering numbers to 10 - eg starting at 8 and count on, what number comes before 7?, what number comes after 5?, what comes between 3 and 5?
  • Patterns using 2/3 colours (making rows, bead jewellery etc), then following patterns as basis for our music (early composition work!)
  • Composing, performing and recording our own compositions and appraising our music
  • Singing, dancing, playing and pretending
  • Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year and Diwali celebrations
  • We had our photo taken by 'The Campaign' (order it)
  • Recording our first film (Due for release in December 2008)
  • We have made videos to help our parents help us with sounds at home
  • ...and so much more!

Book bags - We read in school every day.  Please send in the book bag on the correct day, this will help us support your child.  We will read with your child, write to you and send the book bag home again with some direction.  Reading in Reception is so important and is going to be the key to learning in school.  Thank you for your continued support with reading at home, it is much appreciated. Keep it going Reception!  You are making great progress!!

  

Big Cat Phonics is our interactive whiteboard software that helps the whole class learn sounds, words and reading sentences in a fun way.  We have started using this daily in school.  Your child will enjoy and develop using this valuable teaching resource. 

  

Rote counting - forwards, backwards, English, welsh and even a little bit of Chinese!!!

This year’s Early Years Christmas disco   – 3:30 Monday 8th December (come back to The Early Years Unit for a bop and boogie).

   

Our Christmas Extravaganza (concert) – 9:30/1:00 12th December (wear best clothes).

   

Early Years Puppet show  - During the school day 16th December.

   

Reception Christmas Dinner – 12 noon 17th December (traditional kitchen food for children who have requested it/festive cheer for all).

  

EarlyYears Christmas Party – During the school day 18th December.

First day of Spring Term – Tuesday 6th  January 2009

  

Party Party  - designing and making a party, creating everything needed for the best party ever! (...isn't school great!)

 

Reception will be walking up to the Key Stage 1 building on Friday to perform 'Harvest Time is Here Again' to the Infant children.  This will be an exciting challenge as we are going to sing and perform actions.

  

The Reception Parents Meetings will take place on Wednesday 22nd October and Thursday 23rd October 2008.  We will discuss how things have gone so far and where we are going.  It will be a celebration of achievement and a chance to think about how best we can help your child.
